Angel is the beautiful horse in the picture. She is a dear friend and one of the most important teachers of my life. They say that the teacher appears when the student is ready. My best friend from childhood purchased her on a whim and ended up not being able to keep her, so Angel came to me. She was a very pushy two year old and I thought I was going to show her how to do what I wanted. HA! She did exactly the opposite of what I told her to do -- pulling back, striking and biting. Angel pushed me to find natural horsemanship because I was unable to figure her out. I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that the natural horsemanship journey would have lead me full circle to know what I know now, and I am very grateful for it. Lessons of love The last ten years spent in Parelli Natural Horsemanship with Angel as my trainer and instructor have shown me what horses will do for us even when they don't really agree with it. In Parelli, we learned how to ride and perform without a bridle, and to do liberty demonstrations. Angel made me realize that there still was very much an element of force to the method, even if it was presented in a kinder and gentler way. I was shown by Angel that neither she nor anything else living would never give of their true selves by force. Angel would do just enough for me to get what ever was being asked done, but not with the brilliance that was possible. Now, I always ask with no strings attached, and always with love. Angel and all the other animals keep saying the same thing, and that is to love whoever or whatever is around and treat them as if it were yourself, because it is. WE ARE ALL ONE.
